I bought a pound of coffee in kauai and i want to carry it on my flight back to SF. will this be a problem? Is there even a slight chance that it would be confiscated?

It might be an issue as California doesn't allow Fruit, Veggies, or Plants back into the state...

I do not know about California (after all they do have some weird laws) but my last trip from Guatemala to Houston (Texas) I brought back 50 1 lb bags of coffee beans...I was told on a previous trip to Costa Rica that as long as the beans are roasted and not green they are allowed...But again I would check with California to be sure.

People flying from Hawaii bring back nuts, chocolate, pineapples, and coffee all the time. Most places you buy coffee at will know. As long as they're roasted and not green, you won't have a problem. Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee so some of the coffee in the continental US is from Hawaii. You'll be fine.
